BIG HOPES AHEAD OF AUSSIE TITLE FIGHT:

Olympic star, Harry Garside is calm and confident ahead of taking on Manuer Matet for the Australian lightweight title in Sydney next Wednesday, April 6.

Garside says he’s treating this fight like his debut, after his first professional fight was an easy first round TKO that didn’t showcase his exceptional ability.

“I just want to get in there and have fun, I love this sport with all my heart.”

“I want to plant my name with some of the greats we have in Australian boxing at the moment. I really want to make an impact”.

The men aren’t foreign to each other, having already faced off in the amateurs in 2018. Garside says he’s a “tricky customer” . “I got the win then, and it was an awkward fight.”

“This is a massive stepping stone to becoming the fighter I want to be. I want to be one of the best fighters Australia has ever produced. This is just a stepping stone. I just want to start my progression onto the world title.”

Garside relishes the feeling inside the ropes and takes great comfort having Johnny Lewis in his corner, “the king of Australian Boxing”.

“When I jump inside the boxing ring it’s like you’re a lion, you’re in a jungle. Eat or starve. When you get in there I feel so natural and alive and everything is heightened. I live for that feeling.”

“I want to slow it down, be smart, and believe in my ability. I’ve been doing this for 16 years – I can win this, I know I can.”
