Australian boxing star an former super welterweight world champion Tim Tszyu will make his much anticipated return to the ring in an IBF World Title Eliminator in his home country of Australia, No Limit Boxing confirmed today.
Tszyu, 29, was recently given the all clear by medical professionals to return to full training after being forced to postpone his previously announced bout against Vergil Ortiz, scheduled for August. This will be the former world champions first fight back since his split-decision loss to Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas in March and first fight on home soil since retaining his WBO world title against Brain Mendoza on the Gold Coast in October 2023.
No Limit Boxing CEO Gorge Rose confirmed that Tszyu has been mandated by the IBF to face the number one American super welterweight Erickson Lubin with plans to finalise a deal before 30 July or it will head to purse bids.
“Tim Tszyu is back and is coming for it all,” Rose said.
“Having ben cleared by his medical team, he is ready to remind everyone who the real king of the super welterweight division is and he will be making a statement on his return to Australia.
“We’ve managed to secure Sunday September 22 with our broadcast partner Fox Sports in what is the biggest month of sport for Australia. It doesn’t get any bigger than a massive standalone Sunday fight alongside the NRL and AFL final series and I can’t wait.
“We hope to have a deal done with Lubin’s team before the end of the month, but if not we’ll head to purse bids and are confident to get the job done”
Tim Tszyu said: “I can’t wait to get my hands on him. My body is perfect, my knuckles are itchy and I’m going to make a statement back on home soil. I’m not one to sit around and wait and I’m coming back to take over, mark my words.”
In additional news, No Limit Boxing also confirmed the return of his younger brother and current Australian champion Nikita Tsyzu on August 22. He will take on former amateur rival Koen Mazoudier (12-3-1) in his second defence of the same national title his world champion brother won years before.
The Tszyu siblings will fly out to the Las Vegas tomorrow (Friday) to commence training camps and won’t return until fight week of their respective events.
Venue and ticketing details for both fights will be announced in the coming weeks.
